The global used-smartphone market is expected to grow by 17.6% year-on-year.
According to the latest report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), the worldwide shipment of used smartphones is likely to reach a total of 206.7 million units in 2019 as compared to 175.8 million units shipped in the previous year.
A growth of 17.6% will be seen on both used smartphones and officially refurbished ones. The report also states the used smartphone market will reach 332.9 million units in 2023 with a rate of 13.6% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2018 to 2023.
TRAI has extended the deadline for comments on fixing data and voice floor rates.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline for receiving comments on ‘Tariff Issues of Telecom Services’ to February 28, 2020. And, the last date for receiving counter-comments on its consultation paper on fixing a floor price for data and voice services on telecom network is set to March 13, 2020.
Vietnam’s largest mobile carrier has announced to launch its commercial 5G service in June.
Viettel, Vietnam’s largest telecommunication company, has officially declared it is going to launch commercial 5G mobile services in June. The company also stated it would use the 5G network equipment and software developed itself. The military-run company is now going to be the world’s sixth company to produce 5G network equipment after Nokia, Ericson, Huawei, ZTE, and Samsung Electronics.
On Sunday, January 19 at around 4 p.m., WhatsApp faced an outage in several parts of the world like India, Brazil, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Millions of users were unable to share photos, videos, audio, stickers, and GIFs due to the failure in the server of the mobile messaging app. The users also reported that they were unable to view others’ WhatsApp Status.
Finance Ministry to start a social media campaign from January 22 to demystify Budget 2020.
The Finance Ministry of India is going to put an effort to make the Budget 2020 clear to the common man. The ministry is going to use the ‘#ArthShastri’ hashtag in the campaign to explain the important economic terms through interesting animated videos.
The campaign is mainly aimed at educating the common man and students, and make them understand the whole process of budget exercise in simpler terms. The campaign was also done last year before the Budget.
Vodafone faced a dip of 39% while Bharti Airtel gained 4%.
The shares of Vodafone Idea fell below 39% to ₹3.66, whereas the shares of Bharti Airtel went over 4% to touch a 52-weeks high of ₹498.65. The downfall of the share prices was mainly due to the Supreme Court’s rejection of the telcos’ review plea.
The telcos had filed a plea seeking a review on the apex court’s judgment on the adjusted gross revenue (AGR), because of which the telcos will have to pay a whopping ₹1.3 lakh penalty.
HCL Tech has earned a net profit of 13%
. HCL Technologies has reported an increase of 13% in its consolidated net profit at Rs. 2,944 crores for the October – December quarter in 2019. The earnings of the company for the same quarter in the previous year were ₹2,605 crores. While revising the revenue growth forecast, the tech giant stated that the company is likely to grow 16.5-17% in constant currency for FY20. The company now seems to be confident about the on-demand environment for the next year.
